Ma Maison

Ma Maison is a little restaurant in the suburbs of Ampang that offers delectable classic French fare in a warm and cozy setting. Bertrand J. Langlet arrived from Paris 21 years ago to work as a hotel chef in town. Having finished his stint in the city, Langlet left the country but 11 years later, he returned and brought with him the less stuffy side of French cuisine to his restaurant in Ampang.

For entrees, you can try the Escargots a la Bourguignonne (escargots burgundy style), prepared with a light sprinkle of garlic and herbs that did not alter the natural taste of the mollusk. Juicy and not doused in cream, the escargots here would convert even the uninitiated into trying some.

A great novelty at Ma Maison is the presentation of the dish – served in porcelain shells – that ensures a less harrowing process for the sampler.

You can then try the Escalope de Foie Gras (Pan Friend Duck Liver with Grapes).
You will be surprised by Langlet’s version as there isn’t a hint of row odor associated with duck liver in smell or taste. The tomato-based gravy accented by the grapes brings down the richness a notch and what you have is a light, wholesome dish.

The realm of poissons (fish) may come in next. Filets de sole Cepes et Artichauts
(Sole Fillet with Boletus Mushrooms and Artichoke), is a flawless fish dish
with the flesh melting ever so graciously into the rich buttery sauce that
combined well with the tartness of the cooked artichokes.

Should you want something more consistent, The Medaillons de Chevreuil au Poivre
Noir (Venison Medallions with Black pepper) would be for you. Tender slices
of meat were lightly seared and served with mild black pepper gravy. Presented
on a pile of sliced grilled potatoes, it is a satisfying dish that showcases
the simple but delicious French fare.

The whole meal should topped by the house specialty, Crepes Ma Maison – apple pancake with vanilla ice cream and orange. Word fail in singing the praise of this dessert, as the taste, texture and presentation speak volumes to this perfect ending.

Ma Maison will be pleased to welcome you should you want to discover the real greatness of French Cuisine.
